Yeah Never Mind.

I just don't think we can do it.

The move to Texas decimated our savings and, and, and, there's a ton of "ands."

I'm handing this all over to Dr. Mad Scientist. He can look for a place to live and shit if he really wants this job.

I hate this place. I hate Texas and this situation so much.

Look if NY isnt meant to be, it isn't meant to be....but- look at it this way. He got a job offer...so there will be others soon to follow.
I'm sorry it all sucks right now, I really am...I know how bad it feels to be in limbo.
I'm pulling for you guys. Much love!

I'm hoping that if NY is out you can get the WI job and hang with Elizabeth!

Any chance of help from Mr. Bezzie's future employer?

it's a lot easier for him to keep looking when he has the confidence of having had a job offer, especially so soon out of the phd gate :)

you will know when the move is right to make it happen, cap'n! good luck with it, relocating is the pits, but you already know that.

Yes, maybe Wisconsin will be easier. The housing situation wouldn't be nearly as rough.

I think the only way to move to NY is to have a place to stay, pack up and go, and then iron out the permanent details. Which is no way to do things when you're a family. The other way is to be extra rich, or have a temporary apt set up from the employer.

Sorry for your disappointment.

Just a comment to say- sorry about your sucky situation - Look at your time in Texas as credited purgatory and now you've built up some great karma to collect on.

On Bezzie,

don't give up yet, good things will happen for you and your family. If not NY then something better. Don't be disheartened.

I have nothing to add to all the good cheer everyone else has sent, but hang in there...and those of us in the MN/WI corridor are crossing our fingers.

Wisconsin sounds more attractive to me anyway. Not that this has anything to do with me. Me, me, me!

*ahem*

You're exhausted. I get tired just thinking about all you've done to hold your family together for the last year. Sit back, take a break, and let someone else handle things for, oh, at least a day or two.

It seems like Dr. MS is very marketable now, and that's a good thing. Relax and let the right offer come sailing in.

Oh, Bezzie, don't despair! They offered him the job. That means they want him. Some employers will offer a 'signing bonus' or help with the relocation of highly qualified applicants that they have to look halfway across the country for - if they are asked. I vote asking Dr. MS to tell them that he's enthusiastic about the position, but would have serious issues getting there to accept it. If they really want him they'll say, "Gee, let's see what we can come up with."

Don't lose faith! if not this (highly prestigious) offer, then another one will be workable for you.

Aw, I'm sorry this is a struggle. It's a big decision to make though and think, it can only get better! Good luck with your decision making!

I second that if Mt. Sinai wants him, then they will help out in some way.

If all else fails, ya'll could come up to DFW....I think I have a little room in the corner...no, wait...that's covered in yarn too....lemme get back to you.... :-P

Well, congrats anyway...it's fantastic that he was offered a job by such a prestigious place. There will be other offers!

I'm sorry. I do hope something positive comes out of all this. Any chance you all can start looking closer to "home"?

Oh Sweetie, hang on.

I think this is one of those years you'll look back on when you're in your Golden Years and say, "Boy that was one craptastic year...."

(but we made it)

No chance of a moving allowance from the new employer. If they want him badly enough they may come to the party. It doesn't hurt to ask. We moved to a new country when my husband finished his PhD he was, ahem, rather specialised, and they were willing to cough up. It's worth a try. Good luck with it. Job hunting and moving suck.

No! Don't give up yet! You'll LIKE New York I promise! And you are the queen of the Cheap Ass, so you can certainly make it here!

Well, if you don't end up coming, I'm sure it will all work out for you in the end.

Take your friends advice! Ask for a moving allowance!! All they can do is say no. And only do this if Dr MS really really wants this job. Is it in the feild that he wants to work in? And go from there. Hang in there Bezzie we are all pulling for you and know that things will turn out. And hey I think that there needs to be a new Muppet movie...Muppets Take NJ! Love, Mom
