...I have to go with a bank check to their offices and pay the deposit/first month's rent on MONDAY.

So another three nights in a hotel=$300

Two extra days on the truck=$200

Dr. Mad Scientist has to work on Monday. I have NO clue how I'm going to rig all this.

I tell you what, I am dedicating the next two years of my life while he's at Mt. Sinai on learning how to buy a house on my own.

Because if I can't get a damn realtor to work for me to rent a lousy apartment, how do I expect them to help me do the important things like buy a house.

Well that's assuming we have ANYTHING saved. This move has officially put us in with the rest of America---we're living in the red. Bye bye savings. It was nice knowing you.

Hang in there! You can do it! Maybe put up an ad for some hunky Jersey boys to help you move :) DMS is at work, so a little eye candy can't hurt, right? I'm kidding, but I'm sure you can make it happen, you are the master!

If I lived within 100 miles, I'd come help with unloading the truck.

Can you approach the landlord directly for permission to move the heavy stuff in ahead of time?

This is New Jersey's way of welcoming you and your family, Bez. They give you the CRAP way at the beginning so that every subsequent day is a wonderful day. Devious, that New Jersey.

My kids and I lived in a hotel for two weeks when we first moved down here. THAT sucked. Bad. So I empathize, sister woman. Won't it be great to be settled back into your own bed with your own furniture in your new place? Yes. Only a few more days!!

That sucks! My mom is in real estate and she just had a deal where the buyer represented himself. She said that he could have done better with someone representing himself and she ended up getting the commission the other agent would have gotten based on the negotiation at the listing.

So, I would recommend you get your real estate license and join a firm. You could do it part time and get their expertise for your own purchase. Or spend the time researching *good* agents. Unfortunately everyone has their r.e. license these days, so it's harder to sort the good from the bad.

When you move to Maryland, let me know (I know you're not, but hey, Johns Hopkins and NIH are there ...) and my mom would be a great resource.

Gah that sucks. Demand they pay for the extra charges as it's their fault they've been incurred. Threaten to cut and run if they don't pull their fingers out of their arses. It's stupid that it's empty and you can't move in.

You could always become a realtor, you know! That way, you'll know how to buy a house, and you'll be one of the few people around who actually do a good job.

You have driven a truck with a car in tow before and I am sure that you can make this work. Chunkie can help you with the little things and if you have to break open the boxes in the truck so that he can. Then after DMS gets home he can help with the rest. As for your saving....well when DMS starts getting a paycheck make sure that you pay yourself first. ten $ is not much but when you add it up plus the interest earned it does. WE LOVE YOU! and are VERY PROUD of what you all are doing! Love, Mom

Yup, that would drive me crazy too! Ont he bright side, if you are renting, that means that any problems aren't your problems. (which, IMHO is the downside to owning) Of course then you have to get said landlord to fix said problem, but hey, why borrow trouble? Have fun...

Yeah - What Kathy said. When I bought my place it was nothing but a headache. That's a story for another day.

I hope you get all moved in with no trouble. I'll take the ride up to help if you want. It's only about an hour away... PM me...

Oh, I'm so sorry! Like everyone else, I wish I was there to help. But you know you'll survive. Monday will suck, but you will survive. (Although I thought DMS didn't start work until March 1?)

Truly, asshats indeed. I hope you enjoy the time you spend in your apartment. I know that up here, buying a house without a realtor or a lawyer isn't too hard. You're a smart cookie! I know you can do it!

You guys will be fine. Once you do get settled in an apartment, you can get into a routine of saving again.

Take care, and as always, I wish you all the very best.
