You Asked For It!

Pictures of typical winter life in Alaska.

We get taught moose safety in school.

Because quite often you see these in your backyard:

Mmmm....fresh compost! You're not supposed to feed moose. But it's good for the earth to compost. So if a moose gets into your compost pile and starts eating banana peels is that bad?

These photos are courtesy of my Mom. In her typical random style (which I think is hereditary from the rambling emails I get from my grandma) she commented on the content of yesterday's post, but ended it with a sentence out of the blue about how moose was munching on her compost pile. Sgeddes requested to see the moose if my mom did indeed send along pictures.

So there you go. I aim to please!

Now I must go continue packing.

Looks like a young punk moose to me; probably on his way to hang out at the mall.

Wow! The only animal I've ever seen in my back yard is a mean possum.

Perfect timing, we have been reading the "Morris the Moose" books today! I thought it was cool having deer outside my suburban house (and office), but moose may very well be cooler!

Hee hee...we had the same thing happen while we were living in Maine...looked out the window one foggy morning and there was a moose hanging out in our side yard. Why none of us took a picture, I'll never know.

Thanks for sharing! How cool is that. It is probably as close to a live moose as I'll get.

I agree that a moose trumps any deer in the yard.

That's so funny- I wondered for the longest time why my eco-concious friends in Kodiak did not have compoo piles- found out that the Kodiak bears love the compoo as well!

It's funny, the only moose I have seen in AK was when riding the bus down Dimond Blvd in Anchorage. Funny to be cruising down a 4-lane road chock full of strip malls and randomly see a moose in someone's yard ;-)

I do have more pictures, that thing hung around for a good 24 hours. I did not get close to him I used the zoom on my camera. And he may have ate up my compost pile but he left me some fertilizer to replace what he ate. Glad that you all liked the pictures. Love, Mom
PS Have a safe trip and fun in ATL and NC

...and to think I moan when the squirrels get into the bird nuts.

He he, I used to have a moose crossing sign on my door in my university dorm that a friend 'borrowed' for me from Norway.

I'd pick that moose over the random skunk that scurries along our backyard fence any day!

Cool! My SIL and her husband had video of a moose just walking down the street when they lived in Alaska.
