Cold Fish

We don't have A/C here in New Jersey.

It doesn't get Texas-hot here, but it's not Alaskan "hot" either.

So there are nights where I wish we could crank up the A/C. In the throes of a heat wave a few weeks ago, I started snuggling up with a bottle of frozen water wrapped in a dishtowel to keep cool when I slept.

But then I thought--why not knit a cozy for my frozen bottle of water? People knit covers for hot water bottles. Why not frozen water bottles?

Therefore, I give you "Cold Fish" (All photos taken by Chunky)

Step 1: Take your bottle of frozen water out of the freezer. Grab your fishskin.

Step 2: Stuff yer fish!

Step 3: Snap up the fish's mouth, snuggle up and enjoy!

I slept with my Cold Fish last night. No, it wasn't 90 degrees last night, but the Cold Fish also does wonders to soothe a sunburn I got driving to the Jersey Shore with Chunky and Dr. Mad Scientist Sunday.

What an awesome idea! But seriously, you should remove this post, patent the idea, find a marketing agent, and sell them. You could have yourself a nice little cottage industry and make a few bucks working from home as the CEO of Cold Fish, Inc.

If you don't follow Wendy's advice, write up the pattern and put it up for sale! It's a fabulous idea! Get a patent! Once you make your first million you can get someone to make silicone shaped fish to put into the fishbags!

Okay, maybe that goes a bit far...

It is a very cool idea though.

If you don't sell this pattern (you should) you need to submit this to knitty with some snarky little description. Do it! It's awesome!

You totally need to slather up before you get in the car for a road trip down the shore. If you hit traffic you get toasted.

Here’s the link to that article I was telling you about: http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2007/07/07/heat/

“The heat comes in and slows things. It comes in through the window where the ice tea sits brewing in the sun. There's a dog panting somewhere, behind the couch. For coolness, you'd drape yourself over the thick limb of a purple beech tree, or slide an ice cube back and forth across your forehead.”

Brilliant!

Don't forget to tie a wet bandanna on your head to stay cool. That one really works, but you need to refresh the bandanna every so often.

That rocks, what a fabulous idea. I say go for life writing up the pattern too. I'd make one, my room is next to the water heater cupboard and is near tropical all year round.
