Yarn Porn Friday
Now, most of you know I'm not your typical yarn pornographer. It's my anti-bandwagon (which seems to be selective) personality combined with my crappy camera that makes me shy away from participating in your typical Yarn Porn Friday.
Today is an exception.
I've noticed lots of people in the blogoverse showing off their yarny Christmas hauls.
Wednesday I got to join that group.
My Youngest Younger Brother is notorious for sending his Christmas gifts late. Which is fine. Growing up in Alaska, you always had at least one relative's gifts shipped via the slow truck that came after Christmas. It was always fun to open presents after Christmas had come and gone.
I had written off this year as not one of getting any yarn or yarn related paraphernalia (despite the fact I put it on my list and spelled out the details...).
Until Wednesday.

Mmmmm....

The note on there reads:
Dear Kaye,
It was brought to my attention that it does matter what kind of yarn you work with after I purchased this (spool?) of yarn. It was soft and somewhat shiny and I couldn't resist. Sorry it isn't Qiviut.
Love,
Youngest Younger Brother
P.S. I just realized this is a laundry marking pen.
Isn't that awesome?
He gave me a skein of Caron's Simply Soft in Dark Sage. Apparently after he bought it, Mom told him I was picky about my yarn.
I'll cut her some slack. I don't think she was reading my blog when I knit this out of Caron's Simply Soft in Dark Sage.

This skein is more touching than any fancy non-box store yarn could ever be!
That and I do loves me some Simply Soft!!!

Doesn't it totally kick ass when younger brothers pay attention to what we like? And the note on the label? Too cute!
That is so darn sweet. What a great brother! Very thoughtful and such a cute note. Love the color too. I am another green fan!
That is so cute!! I love simply soft for the same reason your brother bought it. Its soft and shiny! (my mother instilled an unhealthy love of anything shiny into me)
What a sweet brother :)
How sweet and very thoughtful!
What a sweet note! I love Simply Soft. It's soft, shiny, washable, and cheap.
Very sweet of your little brother.
That is so incredibly sweet!
Awww, I can't wait until my lil'bro gets with the gift program, he's possibly the most thoughtful person in the family, but as yet exempt as he's not even old enough to have a driver's license yet. My older brother, however, gave me out of state lottery tickets...and a card saying his missed me, but not my sarcasm...now that is love, ahem.
As my Hanai mom says, (especially as I'm mailing her gift today), Christmas isn't over until the last present arrives. I think Hawai'i and Alaska both have the "slow boat to China" syndrome.
That is very sweet!
Your brother sounds very, very sweet.
HAHA - spool! Very cute note and gift!
Your brother bought you a present? Your brother spent $ on you? Wow, I didn't know that was possible. My brother wouldn't buy me a glass of water if it meant he had to cut back on Mac accessories, or CDs. That's right, he's a classic selfish bastard. Luckily not everyone's brothers turn out that way.
Hey, I thought you didn't like green? Seems to me you love green. Am I delusional?
Hey, how was I to know that you would love that yarn. He got it at that place where I use to work at. They don't carry the best yarn or even the second best. So now what are you going to do with your "spool" of yarn? Love, Mom
I love your pullover. I can't believe its made out of simply soft, although imho, simply soft is one of the nicer acrylics. Can you tell me if it pills? How does it wear?
I love your pullover. I can't believe it's out of Simply Soft. FWIW, simply soft is one of the nicer acrylics, but can you tell me if it pills?

I love that he called it a spool. :) Very sweet.
My bro didn't get me anything, but only because I told him not to. The fact that he's on my doorstep ready to babysit at a moment's notice is enough gift for me.
That's a great sweater! What pattern is that?
Now all you need is a sexy tatt on your shoulder.
Now that is THE most priceless knitting gift of all! ~sneef~
What a great gift! Those are always the best.
I love that spool o yarn.
Of course I cramped my neck bending it sideways to read lil bro's note only to scroll down and see you were smart enough to write it out for us. Yes I'm a dork.
It's like you guys have a psychic connection or something! Perfect!
This year, due to my disorganization, I had to give 3 people their Christmas presents AFTER Christmas. And they were so excited since Christmas was over. I think I might do that on purpose next year! Nothing like spreading a little extra joy.
And clearly he is related to you. He likes the simply soft too!
You know Bezzie, I loved this post so much I came back for a re-read, which is not the norm for me. I have people from work bring me yarn that their mothers/grandmas/aunts used because they "knew I would love it". The dollar value doesn't matter; it really is the thought that is priceless! I am honored when someone thinks of me. You get it, and that is why I value your friendship!
Again, that is a wonderful thing to share! Thanks.
Kay
Simply soft is one of the best cheap yarns around. It makes great baby things and things you don't want to have to be too picky about how they get washed. What a nice brother you have! My sil found a "stitch a day" calendar and even though I don't talk to her about knitting, ever, she bought it for me. I was mildly surprised that she even remembered I knitted!
How thoughtful is that!! See, you did get yarn for Christmas (not just yummy cheese!!). I love your mom though ("She's picky about the yarn she knits with.")!
What a great younger brother! My brother on the otherhand, thank goodness he married his wife (she'll buy me yarn!!).
That's so thoughtful! And Simply Soft is my cheap yarn love. Knit up, the sheen looks almost like silk, very fancy. And you can wash it in the machine. Doesn't get any better!
oo, thats a cheeky sweater you knit up there! I think I may have to check that stuff out!
