Not So Bad

Being 30 that is.

First up, the Boston Cream Pie was delicious. I think I must have put on five pounds just yesterday.

One of my bosses bought me a beautiful fondant cake with "Happy Flag Day [Bezzie]" written on it. This was from the boss I made the chocolate cheese pie for a little over a week ago.

Chunky made me a sweet little card.

Which I added to my collection of birthday cards on the windowsill.

I notice a very TurtleGirl theme going on here...first the turtle card from Chunky and check out the orange kitty cards from my Mom and Dad and Aunt Jaywalker.

But the best thing was something that I knew I wanted, but forgotten I had asked for (for Christmas last year). Dr. Mad Scientist couldn't find it last year in any store, and actually ordered this online for me.

It's a Compost Pail! I had been collecting my scraps in an old Folgers can (tub?? What do you call them now that they're made of plastic?) but it got quite stinky quite fast and I deep sixed the concept.

My Aunt Jaywalker had this same cannister when Chunky and I visited her last October and I loved it.

It has a charcoal filter on the lid so the funkafactor doesn't get too bad. It holds a gallon of scraps so you don't always have to be walking to the compost pile.

Totally not a necessity for composting--but a wonderful little birthday splurge! Especially because I know he could have gotten it for $30 cheaper if he had shopped around online for it. But I didn't marry him for his financial sense. Hee hee!

What a great day you had! Love Chunky's card. Nothing like a turtle card to make your birthday complete. I bet Turtlegirl would agree.

Cool composting thingy. I'm not sure what you do with it when it's full (take it to the compost heap I suppose). At first I thought it was an asparagus cooker. HA!

Enjoy your compost can! Dr MS did great with the gift selection!
Chunky's card is really cute.

I don't have one yet...I did just get a 25% off coupon for a local store and that's what I'm going to buy. It will still cost me $30. I've seen them for as much as $50. I've been using a plastic quart yogurt container but it does fill up really quick, esp since we fix three vegetarian meals a day.

Gosh, that turtle card from Mr. Chunk is a keeper forevers!
That is an excellent kitchen scrap can. My grandmom had one very similar. (They had a farm in the depression and an enormous vegetable garden in their retirement, so they really used up their compost.)
Excellent birthday haul!

Awww, what a cute card! Chunky's got some nice handwriting (and good drawing skills) for a kindergartener (OK, newly graduated kindergartener). And I'm impressed that Dr. M.S. remembered you wanted that compost canister!

Beautiful stained glass window too - I just love old houses!

Love the compost pail. We used the coffee can method for a long time. We had six or eight "cans" under the kitchen sink full of stuff. Yuck! No one liked dumping the compost :). We use a different, but similar, method now, and just dump it more often. I like you compost pail better than my bucket. It still stinks :).

fun ws had by all! and the boss obviously realized the cake was for her (flag day sneakiness notwhithstanding) and that is kinda nice. The compost pail is a neat idea. But I really don't need another thing to keep track of on my miniscule kitchen counter. I wish there was another way....

So I tried wishing you a happy birthday yesterday, but blogger didn't like me; let's see if today is any better :)

Happy Birthday!

I'm glad you had a great birthday. I thought your husband bought you a stock pot! LOL :) Not knocking a stock pot, I could really use one, but that is what I thought it looked like! So shiny.....

Happy Birthday! Late! I'm behind on blog reading!

Nice compost pail. I have a stainless one similar to yours, but not quite as fancy--no charcoal filter. Even without a filter, it isn't funky unless it's days overdue for emptying.

You know husbands are not all that bad. You get all pissed at them and them they remember that you said you wanted something and get it for you without you having to ask. It looks like a good compost collector. And so attractive!
