No, Not Pie You Fat...

Well I won't finish that South Park quote.

But today's post is all about pie.

Remember my Fourth of July apple pie? And the failed store-bought crust?

It crumbled to high hell when I tried to put it on top. And when I tried re-rolling it like the instructions said, that just made matters worse.

So I emailed the company about these problems and yesterday this appeared in the mail:

Kudos to Mrs. Smith's. And guess who's buying pie next time she goes grocery shopping?

It does pay to let companies know when they fail. I logged an email complaint about a McDonald's, sure that no one would read it let alone respond. Well, I got a phone call from the owner and a written apology and coupons for free food. They take complaints seriously. I love Mrs. Smith's pies. Their pumpkin is almost as good as homemade.

Ah, the free coupon...at least it's not for the same failed crust! I complained about the way a certain brand of local dairy's milk packaging had been manufactured...colorful BLUE bits of the carton were IN the milk.

They picked it up, examined it, apologized, and sent me a coupon for TWO containers of their milk...I'd have much rather have gad a coupon for their ice cream or yogurt or anything not in the same containers that were never altered.

Yeah, I've found a polite complaint, or even a really great "yay you did well" note will generate FREE coupons. go you!

As for crust, I find the box of refrigerated Pillsbury to work really well.

that's why I totally support complaining about stuff - especially to companies. Sometimes it actually works!

Tha tis an excellent cheap-ass tip! my mom used to write any company about stuff she was disappointed in. The melba toast were slightly darker than usual? Write them and say they were burned. Get a huge box of smaples of their products. Bought popsicle sticks for a school project that claimed there were 200 in the box? Count them and when they come up short, write them to get a free box. the creamsicles only have orange halfway down? Write and ye shall receive coupons for 5 free boxes.

All above examples actually happened.

Nice! I always complain when a product sucks. Pi's build a bear shoes broke after just one week. I sent an email and they sent me a free pair to replace the broken ones. Enjoy the pie!

All right, I think it is cool you got a coupon and all, but I wouldn't eat a Mrs. Smith pie even for free. They should have sent a coupon for free pie crust so at least you could have had something palatable and semi home made. (or did they, I don't know, did not read close enough)
Processed food is crap.

Very cool! It does pay to complain sometimes! And sometimes not - my oldest brother and his family drove to Florida a few weeks ago (from Ohio) and stopped at a hotel in South Carolina on the way back, I think a Days Inn, but when they checked in their room, the room was crawling with enormous roaches. It was the middle of the night, and they had been driving for about 15 hours, and really needed to get some sleep. They complained at the front desk, left that same night, and wrote a letter to the hotel's corporate office to complain, and didn't get a thing - just basically "our hotels are individually owned so there's nothing we can do" - no discount for another stay, or free night's room or anything. I thought that was pretty lousy.

Dude that's awesome. I wrote to Victoria's Secret ages ago about a very expensive bra that fell apart and I haven't heard a damn word about it.

Mmm ... Pie ....

I never complain. If I get a crappy product or lousy service, I just stop patronizing that company - like they give a damn! I should start complaining, and maybe something good would happen ... like free pie. That would make me happy ;).

I recently found (big) bones in a can of tuna. I contacted the company and they mailed me coupons for four free cans plus two 25ยข off ones.

If we as the consumers don't let them know that their QA/QC has slipped up, how will they know?

The life we save, may be our own down the road.
