Mitts Romney

I finally finished Chunky's flippy-top mittens.

Actually they've been done for about a week and a half now, I just finally got around to buying the buttons for them.

Moochie wanted to get in on the photo shoot action.

See his shirt?

"Silent Night? I don't think so!"

It's a Christmas shirt (that didn't fit him at Christmas time), but so appropriate. It's 7:30 at night right now (I love scheduled posts!) and he's basically been up since 2:00 p.m. He gets sooooo close to sleeping and then BAM! Wakes himself up, screams for two hours until he shows signs of being hungry. I feed him, change him, burp him, put him down. He screams. Falls asleep for 2 minutes, wakes himself up, screams for...well, you get the picture.

Moochie owes a huge debt to his big brother. Why? Because if Chunky was this much of a little shit when he was this little (he went thru this phase when he was 5 or 6 months old), we would never have had Moochie!!!

(Shut up Mom, I know you're laughing!)

But back to the mittens.

The stats:

Pattern: My own.

Yarn: Handspun romney (brown) and merino (red)

Needles: US 9

Notes: Not much to say, they're flippy top mittens. I didn't have enough romney so I topped them with the red merino. I do have a small amount of each yarn left--but not enough of the romney where I could have made two complete mittens.

Overall, Chunky seems to like them.

Now I must go back to my feeble attempts to pacify the smallest human of the household.

Cute mittens! Mittens are definitely much better than gloves. And is that a crocheted blanket I see?!

My daughter was horribly colicky, constantly sick, and it seemed like she barely slept at all her first year. My own mother, who raised 6 kids, couldn't even handle babysitting her. We went through three babysitters before I finally gave up and put her in a daycare center. I can't say I miss those days! Honestly, if I didn't get pregnant with my son when I did, I don't think I'd have had any more kids, either, because she wore me out! My son was a much easier baby to deal with.

Love the mitts - good boy colours.

J was like moochie - he's was collich he just got over it at about 3 mths or so - when he started to cut his 1st tooth. I had less than 10days of a baby that didn't cry/scream and stay awake all the time - perhaps that's why I only had the one!

Poor moochie. It must be tough not to be able to settle. Poor mom. It must be tough not to want to put him in a sack and hang him out the back door!
The mittens are great. I really like knitting with my own handspun. It's kinda cool.

Good job on the mittens Mom!

Chunky, still cute, check.

Moochie, looks grouchy, check.

Poor baby. I wonder what is going on in his brain. It's tough learning to relax and give in. I haven't mastered it yet myself. ;-)

Yes! I am laughing;)

He will grow out of it, you did.

Nice mittens! With warm hands how can Chunky not have a smile on his face?

Love, Mom

Cool mittens.

It's tough being a little guy. Hopefully this will be a short lived thing. I was lucky with your 3 cousins. They were good babies. All 3 started sleeping through the night a couple of days before I went back to work. I thought that was amazing. Sam made me lose more sleep when he was in high school than when he was a baby. Oh the middle child... Hang in there. Love, Aunt Susan

I thought of mushrooms too...of the Mario Brothers variety...wow, that takes me back.

About the same time frame, I baby-sat a little guy with the same screaming tendencies one summer...I gave in entirely and held/carried/tied him to me during the entirety. Not the best solution, but I was but the babysitter. It boggles that he's 18 years old now, though.

I don't know -- I hear I was a colicky baby, but I have younger siblings!

I made the pumpkin cookies last night -- yum!

Love the mittens. Well done you, making them from scratch, so to speak.

Chunky looks so grown up in that picture.

As for the small person!!! I think you're making it up ;0)

flip-top mittens knit of handspun...with a new baby in the house? You are my hero! I can attest to the crazy order of kids. First kid was a dream. Second kid screamed so much the nurses begged me to get her out of the nursery. The real miracle is that I had a third kid after that.

Hmm, my first was the difficult one. That's part of why we have a 6.5 year age difference.

Cute mittens!

I love that expression on Moochie's face. Old beyond his years.

Your attempts to remind me of the grim realities have FAILED to quench my raging baby-envy. So cute. Nice mittens.

Here's hoping you can get some sleep.
