CoW: Drape Yourself in Velvet

It's not "C" for Cookie this week (even though cookie, cookie, cookie starts with "c"!) it's Cake! Chocolate velvet cake to be exact.

First you grab two 9" round cakes.

These are cake mix cakes. Sue me, it was a work-night.

You whip up 3 ozs. of cream cheese, 1/4 cup of cocoa, 2/3 of a cup of powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon of milk, and two cups of heavy whipping cream (cream the cheese, cocoa and milk together first and then gradually add the sugar and whipping cream).

I could eat that stuff between two slices of bread--yum!

Next slice both your cakes in half horizontally.

Then layer it baby, layer it!

But when it's done it's going to seem kind of naked.

Ah ha! Everything looks better with ganache!

Mmm...slice, sit back and enjoy another year of life.

Was it your birthday? Did we miss something? Or just me? Either way, that's one damn good looking cake!

Happy Birthday, oldest of my nieces!! I won't give out your age. Hope it's great.

Your cake looks yummy. The filling would be great on a bagel.

it appears to be your birthday, so...happy birthday!

i had serious vision issues with your first picture. i thought that you were sewing striped underwear. (seriously--pretend that your cooling racks are the positive space and the cakes are negative space) i'm not crazy. really.

Happy birthday:0)

I tried some peanut butter cookies last week. Straight out the oven they exploded into dust, but the next day they didn't and tasted great!

That looks absolutely heavenly! Did I mention that I adore chocolate cake?! And that is is a particularly delicious (and pretty!) looking one! I'd be your best friend if you made me a cake like that, LOL!

I generally suck at baking, but cakes are really out of the question for me. I have yet to make a cake (mix or otherwise) that I haven't messed up. Either the layers come out lopsided, or they crack (even if let them cool off long enough) or I get crumbs in the frosting, etc. etc. I leave all the cake making to my husband.

This looks great! Do you have a ganache recipe that you like? Because as much as I bake, I always have issues with ganache....

Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you ate the whole thing! Because, as everyone knows, there's no such thing as calories on your birthday. I myself think there's no such thing as calories on your birthday week.
