Skinnish

It doesn't look like much, but it should be really cute when it's done.

Now hopefully they won't lay me or the coworker that it's intended for off.

Yeah, we got the vague "belt tightening" email at work today. Not sure if it means no more water cooler water, or someone/lots of someones are going to be jobless.

Guess we'll see. I can't wait to hear what the work-hens will have to say about the email.

They're so tiresome sometimes.

I'm not too worried. Whatever happens happens. I can just go along for the ride be it up for down.

Plus I feel fortunate to have lived in Michigan when they were acting as the canary in the mine for the rest of the nation in the economy department. I'm also fortunate that we left Michigan when we did. I have too many friends back in MI that are either chronically unemployed or stuck in jobs where the powers that be abuse them and there's nothing they can do but bend over and grab their ankles because there's nothing better out there.

That whole experience has given me perspective. The office hens have no idea how cushy they really do have it.

Good luck on the belt tightening. We have seen our hours shortened now for about a month don't know if they will let us have them back now that the summer reading program is going full throttle. Last night when I closed we had over 100 people using our computers and wifi plus over 600 through the doors! We are a LITTLE library!!! Hang in there. Love, Mom

The belt is tightening all over it seems. At my job, they called it "consolidation: though nothing has happened yet. Here's hoping your work hens quit clucking for awhile.

There's a LOT of learning going on right now about cushiness vs. reality. You're firmly in reality, so you'll be ok whatever happens ;0)

Now go read your first line again. Either you need to insert the 'off' word, or I need to get my mind out of the gutter (not improbable!)

I meant, read the second line, doh!

I hope you don't get laid at work either. Work entanglements are messy at best.

DH is in High End Women's Retail Clothing Distribution, so yeah, we live in fear of lay-offs. But, there's no sense worrying. What will be, will be. Praying for an economic turn-around to come sooner rather than later.

I'm worried about that at my jjob too. One of the things I have going for me is that I've been here almost 10 years. Hopefully they will start on the new end here.

I got out of MI shortly after you did, and I know exactly what you mean. My friends that are still employed have had their income slashed so much that I don't know how they're hanging on. It gives you a different perspective than the office hens. I hope that everything goes well for you and your job!

One of my great internet recreations is looking at real estate. I've noticed an awful lot of very high-end houses on the market in my county lately: way more than usual. For some reason, it gives me a bit of a perverse glee. I suppose it shouldn't because you know it's bad when the top 1% income bracket has to change their lifestyles. But for most of my adult life, the rich have been getting richer on the backs of the working poor, so I feel it's time that the discomfort hit those Top 1%ers.

Ooo, I know, I know! Killer whale! No, Kung Fu Panda! Er, Pepe Le Pew?

Will cross my fingers that the belt tightening skips your loop!

Whenever people go on strike, my husband comments 'you know they had/have a cushy job when they go on strike for it."

Oh gourds. Not you guys too. I sure will keep my fingers crossed that you are spared, and as far as that goes, everyone else in your company.

Maybe you guys will get lucky and get to participate in the Shared Work Program. 32 hrs a week, plus unemployment for the day you are not working, PLUS you can say you are a kept woman because Obama sends a $25.00 check every week to you as well. Well, I tell everyone I am a kept woman anyhow ;)

Every single person in my family works at a business that's going through layoffs right now. Great googly-moogly!

At my company they call it "reorganization" and instead of laying you off they "notify you of an opportunity to seek employment elsewhere" or some crap like that. But it's not a choice. It's just bullshit.

My friends and family in MI are glad to have what jobs they do right now, which totally stinks. New Orleans is riding this thing out in style and I do not understand how. I'm hoping the belt tightening includes donuts and not desks.

Office hens, LOL! My thoughts exactly! The BOE has a whole lot of women who have been there 15-20+ years, making good money, with really good benefits, and a ton of time off, but all they do is complain (and criticize the temps, while we do the same exact work as them, but for $10 an hour and no benefits). A whole lot of unemployed people (including myself) would be happy to have one of those jobs.

That's gotta be a little Panda outfit, eh? Too much potential cuteness!

I'm willing to bet that you'll be safe. You're a hard worker and obviously well appreciated by your higher ups. I think they'd fight to keep you.

It gets scary when the big law firms around are closing shop. It would have been unheard of a few years ago. We have been in belt tightening mode for over a year. They announced yesterday that we'll only get a 2% increase this year. I listened to folks complain and all I could think was, 'at least I have a job and benefits'. I remember years when there were no increases at all.
