Labor Day Wrap Up

Despite the fact some of us were lazy...

100_7692

I was laboring making 7 pints of applesauce.

100_7694

Four with cinnamon, three without. I've got about 8 lbs of apple skins (I knife-peel my apples, my peeler broke many years ago) and cores with lots of meat on them. I've tossed them into the freezer. I'm thinking about making apple butter with them. We'll see how it works. I figure at the worst it's a big failure and I end up with an apple slurry for the compost pile!

I also finished something knit.

It's the Vine and Lace hat from the cover of the Fall 09 Vogue.

It's not blocked. But I'm not going to bother. It's about 2 inches too big around.

Does it look familiar?

strawberry-shortcake

Yeah I look like Strawberry Shortcake's evil twin.

Blackberrybitch Pavlova....

My knitting-chi has been pretty blocked lately. This hat is the second suck in a row after the Chubby Fiefdom fizzle.

Ah well, onward and upward right?

How about some apple jelly? My mom used to use the cores and peelings for that.

Don't SMILE! You are suppose to look very serious!

Your applesauce looks good! Do you reuse your jars or buy new each year?

Love, Mom

Mmm, I love cinnamon apple sauce. I'm the only one who'll eat it here though, so I rarely have it.

Can you push the hat back and make it work like a slouchy hat?

Wow, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm a few rows away from finishing sock #1 for my mom...I'd feel super unproductive...as it is, I just feel the regular unproductive :).

Yey on the sauce!

Have you tried a top-down hat? That's the next challenge for me. I'd love a hat I can try on as I go to make sure it "works" for me...who knows, maybe I'd actually keep it.

i almost can't believe your mom asks if you buy new jars...there's no way you would, unless you give away the goodies IN the jars. hmmmm, not our frugal Bez!!

I know you'll share with us the results of apple butter, no matter which way they go. I'd be interested to see how that turns out.

You need to find someone with lots and lots of hair and give them the hat!

Why do you make some applesauce with cinnamon and some without.

Yeah, as soon as I saw that cover shot, I knew the shower cap potential was set at HIGH. Very funny.

Yummy looking applesauce!

Sorry about the hat tho. I have one that's too big to be a hat hat but not slouchy enough to be a slouch hat so I know the feeling.

What are the odds that I would see a Strawberry Shortcake commercial shortly after reading this post? Apparently, statistically significant. lol

Dropped Pinocle in the mail to you today.

I love apples, but can't do applesauce. Texture thing. But I'm still massively impressed by anyone who does canning. Way to go!
