Prepping

We woke up early and traipsed into the pediatrician's office to get Mr. Mooch his second flu shot.

Chunky was supposed to get one too--but oh darn, they didn't have any big kid doses in yet.

Honestly, if it wasn't mandatory for NJ daycare kids to have them, Mr. Mooch would be flu shot free.

I'm supposed to call next week to schedule Chunky to get his and to schedule Mr. Mooch's 12 mo. check up in December (12 MONTHS? WHEN THE HELL DID HE GET SO BIG?).

I don't think I'm going to mention the whole Chunky flu shot or Swine Flu shot like the ped was making rumblings about. I drank the flu shot koolaid one year and I got the flu so bad. I nearly ended up weaning Chunky as a result of being so dehydrated and steamrolled by the virus. No thanks. Blah blah, I know that's not supposed to happen, but until they make a vaccine that covers ALL strains, I'll save the vaccinations for some elderly people who actually want it.

And not to say that every lab is like this...but after hearing the shit that went down in Dr. Mad Scientist's old labs--I'll pass on the whole Swine Flu shot. You know how when you work at McDonalds you learn what goes on behind the scenes and as a result you never eat at McDonalds again? Yeah.

Anyway--the weather is downright chilly here!

43 degrees outside right now.

The boys were going a bit stir crazy--and Mr. Mooch having his nap schedule screwed six ways to Sunday by the aforementioned flu shot appointment--I broke out the sleds to entertain them.

Can't wait til it snows and we can use these babies for real!

And why yes, that would be Chunky going shirtless inside the apartment with an ambient temperature of 58 degrees if you can trust the ancient thermostat. He said it was "too hot."

He's the offspring of two Alaskans and born in Michigan. Would you expect anything less? Ha ha!

No flu shots here either, swine or otherwise. Why they can't drop everything and come up with a Common Cold Vaccine is beyond me. I suspect the Cough Syrup Lobby is behind it.

Flu shots give me the worst-flu-ever too. I gave them up years ago and tee hee am not in the age range for the swine flu (or so I keep telling my much younger supervisor who is wondering if he should get pricked...)

What doesn't kill us...etc, and so forth.

Cute pics!

We all got our flu shots this year. We've been getting them every year for oh...7 or 8 years now. The one and only year that we skipped it, was the year we all got stupid sick.

I'm undecided about the swine flu. My ped keeps saying its a good idea, but I just don't know. For sure, we will not be getting the nasal version as that one has the live virus in it. No thanks. But can't decide about the shot yet.

When the hell did I grow up and have to make major decisions like this?

Well for the past three years I have been getting the flu shots and I must say they have helped. Where I use to come down with cold, and sinus things and have one long lasting cough I haven't with getting the flu shots. Now when I was younger and in the army and forced to get a flu shot I always got the flu and was sicker than a dog! So I guess what I am saying is....It is diferent for everyone and everyone may change over the years. Love, Mom

I have no interest in the pig shot, but will most likely get a "regular' flu shot. I've gotten one in most of the last 12 years or so and am fairly resilient to seasonal thingies. Fortunately, we (mostly) have choices on these things!

The hospital is making all employees get the shot this year (unless you have a Dr.'s note on why you can't take the shot) or you get put in corrective action. I never used to get the shot but the past few years I have been getting it. I think it has helped. We get exposed to sooo much. Don't know what they are going to do about us & the swine shots. I have a friend that works in a Ped Drs.' office & she has said that parents have tied up all their phone lines in a panic about the swine shot(their actual sick kids parents can't get their calls through). Her office doesn't know if & when they are getting the vaccine. She said alot of the parents are just unreasonable. The media is fueling the panic.

Hope you do get lots of snow this year so you can sled.

Love, Aunt Susan

My kids get the flu shots every year, and neither has ever had any bad side effects or flu from them. They both have asthma, and so are more prone to complications from the flu (pneumonia, etc), so I always make sure they get them. My mother, also asthmatic, ended up hospitalized some years ago with a severe case of pneumonia (before she started getting flu shots regularly), so I don't want to risk that with my kids.

I've already registered them with the Ohio Department of Health to get the swine flu shots when they're available here.

My first year of teaching I was a good little sheep and got the flu shot. Felt lousy for three days after and wound up missing school with the flimsiest excuse ever: "The flu shot made me sick!"

I think the camp is sharply divided. I also don't know what's available here or if I could even take it.

Great sleds! Hope you get some pics of them sledding around.

Sadly, I'm like your Aunt Susan. We have to get the flu shot. The other one..um..nope.

Wow, Moochie almost a year already!

What Poops said about the common cold. Really, that runs through offices like a wildfire every Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall where I work. I am never safe.

And about forcing kids to get the flu shot, I think that is bunk. Some people do have adverse reactions to that stuff, and forcing parents to vaccinate their kids...Gah!

On that note, I did get a flu shot - just the regular one. I will not take the Swine Flu shot - IMO - not so humble either - they slapped that vaccine together way to quickly for my liking.

Here's one for you: we had the woodstove fired up yesterday, and this southern girl transplanted in Maine thought it was too hot :).

I'm loving the cooler weather, too. I sleep better when it's cold.

I might think about getting the swine flu one if I were preggers, but other than that... nope. Not going there.

Some people just don't get cold. We have a friend who runs around in shorts and a tee-shirt in winter. His 3-year-old loves to be as naked as possible in a 60 degree house. The mother is freezing, and their second daughter is taking after the mom. It's so interesting to see how different the girls are in their cold tolerance!

This is the 3rd year I've had the flu shot. I just happened to be at the doc's and she gave it to me. I haven't had the flu for those 3 years. On the other hand, I only had it maybe once before that. I'll probably get the swine shot unless the swine gets me first. This is not unlikely, as I work in an elementary school. What the hell is the diff between the cold and the flu anyhow? Is not the flu just a worse cold?

If my place of employment didn't say (in so many words) "get a flu shot or get fired", I wouldn't. every year I got a shot, I got the flu. I am really angry about having to get two shots this year because they're requiring the H1N1 as well.

And seeing Chunky w/o a shirt gave me such a strong memory of my mother telling me to put slippers on my girls' feet because hers were cold!

I got my flu shot on Thursday. I've had pretty good luck with them the last few years so I figure why stop now? Plus work pays for them.

i don't believe in flu shots for healthy people. kids, the elderly, and health care workers--they should get them in my opinion, but i'll take a pass.

I've never had a flu shot, but this year I'm supposed to get both. I haven't gotten either yet and hoping I don't have to. So far the H1N1 hasn't been avaialble here for me.
