Every Two Years

It seems like every two years I knit Chunky a pair of socks.

I knit him a pair of tiger stripe Opal socks back in 2008 and finished them just in time for the 90 degree July heat.

This time I finished them in time for the MAY 90 degree heat. Yuck.

Pattern: Just a boring 2x2 rib cuffed sock

Yarn: Trekking XXL in some uncreative numbered color. I'm going to dub the color Rainy Day Bumblebee.

Needles: US2

Notes: This time I got smart. I made the socks to fit MY feet. Last time I made them exactly Chunky-foot size and they fit him for about 2 seconds. Right now my feet are about maybe 1/2 an inch longer than his. This means these socks should fit him for 4 seconds!

Pretty (er, maybe I should say handsome, since they're for Chunky) socks!

Be glad Chunky is a boy, so he can't try to wear your shoes, having the same size feet as you! My daughter wore (and ruined) a few pairs of my shoes until her feet got too big for them. She's only 12, and wears size 8 in ladies' shoes (compared to my size 6).

My kids have all stopped growing so if I make them socks, I'll know they'll fit for a while (until they felt them). I love the colors you chose for Chunky (or did he choose them?)

I actually like those socks! I usually don't like self-stripers. Good thing they're just on loan to Chunky. Nice to inherit a pair for yourself after those four seconds!

Nice socks! I dig the colors.

I agree with Laura about being glad Chunky is a boy. Pi and I are both wearing a size 8 now and she's borrowing my shoes. Considering she plays in mud and dirt and grass, this is kind of horrifying for me. I put away all my "good" shoes and just left out the cheapie ones for her to borrow.

What fun stripes! Excellent idea going a bit larger for longer wear. Maybe now you can wait three years before the next pair! ;)

Great socks! See, I figure if I hold off making Willow socks a little bit longer, she will just fit into mine ;)

Only buy him shoes you like when he gets to your size (next week). If he doesn't wear them out, they'll be yours when he grows out of them (give it a fortnight).

I bought roving to spin into yarn to make Dan some socks. It's spun, just needs to be plied. I'm concerned that I won't have enough to make him a PAIR of socks. A sock, sure. A pair? I don't know. The kid has huge feet and he keeps growing taller too. I'm thinking of making him some sacks to wear for the next several years. And maybe some cardboard boxes with strings for shoes. At least til he stops growing.

Love the socks. :) What size is Chunky wearing?

Chunky's one lucky kid, even if it's only for four seconds.
